~FIBROMYALGIA~

Understanding Fibromyalgia Symptoms
Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than 3 months. That’s the main symptom of Fibromyalgia: widespread muscle pain that lasts longer than 3 months. Widespread pain is defined as pain both above and below the waist and on both the right and left sides of the body.

At its best, Fibromyalgia may be described as “mild.” At its worst, intense pain can get in the way of doing normal day-to-day activities.

Some Fibromyalgia sufferers describe their pain as “all over” or “everywhere.” For some people, the pain and stiffness are worst when they wake up. Then it improves during the day. Symptoms may increase again at night. But other people have all-day, non-stop pain. This could include combinations of neck pain, arm pain, shoulder pain, back pain, hip pain, knee pain, feet pain, and pain in just about every other body part.

Everyone experiences pain occasionally, whether it’s a headache, muscle stiffness, or an upset stomach. Some people, such as migraine sufferers or those with irritable bowel syndrome, have to deal with pain and discomfort on a more frequent basis. And then there are people with fibromyalgia—a chronic pain disorder whose often debilitating symptoms overlap with many other diseases.

Now that three drugs have been approved to treat fibromyalgia, you may be hearing a lot about this condition. And if you’ve experienced unexplained pain recently, it’s easy to wonder whether you might even suffer from it. (Between 80% and 90% of those diagnosed with fibromyalgia are women.) Diagnosis can be tricky, but experts say that with the right information, it is possible to find the true cause of your pain—whether it’s fibro or something else—and get the treatment you need.

What Is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia syndrome is a common and chronic disorder characterized by widespread muscle pain, fatigue, and multiple tender points. The word fibromyalgia comes from the Latin term for fibrous tissue (fibro) and the Greek ones for muscle (myo) and pain (algia). Tender points are specific places on the body—on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and upper and lower extremities—where people with fibromyalgia feel pain in response to slight pressure.

Although fibromyalgia is often considered an arthritis-related condition, it is not truly a form of arthritis (a disease of the joints) because it does not cause inflammation or damage to the joints, muscles, or other tissues. Like arthritis, however, fibromyalgia can cause significant pain and fatigue, and it can interfere with a person's ability to carry on daily activities. Also like arthritis, fibromyalgia is considered a rheumatic condition.

You may wonder what exactly rheumatic means. Even physicians do not always agree on whether a disease is considered rheumatic. If you look up the word in the dictionary, you'll find it comes from the Greek word rheum, which means flux—not an explanation that gives you a better understanding. In medicine, however, the term rheumatic means a medical condition that impairs the joints and/or soft tissues and causes chronic pain.

In addition to pain and fatigue, people who have fibromyalgia may experience

sleep disturbances,
morning stiffness,
headaches,
irritable bowel syndrome,
painful menstrual periods,
numbness or tingling of the extremities,
restless legs syndrome,
temperature sensitivity,
cognitive and memory problems (sometimes referred to as "fibro fog"), or
a variety of other symptoms.
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome rather than a disease. Unlike a disease, which is a medical condition with a specific cause or causes and recognizable signs and symptoms, a syndrome is a collection of signs, symptoms, and medical problems that tend to occur together but are not related to a specific, identifiable cause.

Who Gets Fibromyalgia?

According to a paper published by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), fibromyalgia affects 3 to 6 million - or as many as one in 50 - Americans. For unknown reasons, between 80 and 90 percent of those diagnosed with fibromyalgia are women; however, men and children also can be affected. Most people are diagnosed during middle age, although the symptoms often become present earlier in life.

People with certain rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (commonly called lupus), or ankylosing spondylitis (spinal arthritis) may be more likely to have fibromyalgia, too.

Several studies indicate that women who have a family member with fibromyalgia are more likely to have fibromyalgia themselves, but the exact reason for this—whether it be hereditary or caused by environmental factors or both—is unknown. One study supported by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) is trying to identify if certain genes predispose some people to fibromyalgia. (

What Causes Fibromyalgia?

The causes of fibromyalgia are unknown, but there are probably a number of factors involved. Many people associate the development of fibromyalgia with a physically or emotionally stressful or traumatic event, such as an automobile accident. Some connect it to repetitive injuries. Others link it to an illness. People with rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, are particularly likely to develop fibromyalgia. For others, fibromyalgia seems to occur spontaneously.

Many researchers are examining other causes, including problems with how the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) processes pain.

Some scientists speculate that a person's genes may regulate the way his or her body processes painful stimuli. According to this theory, people with fibromyalgia may have a gene or genes that cause them to react strongly to stimuli that most people would not perceive as painful. However, those genes—if they, in fact, exist—have not been identified.

How Is Fibromyalgia Diagnosed?

Research shows that people with fibromyalgia typically see many doctors before receiving the diagnosis. One reason for this may be that pain and fatigue, the main symptoms of fibromyalgia, overlap with many other conditions. Therefore, doctors often have to rule out other potential causes of these symptoms before making a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Another reason is that there are currently no diagnostic laboratory tests for fibromyalgia; standard laboratory tests fail to reveal a physiologic reason for pain. Because there is no generally accepted, objective test for fibromyalgia, some doctors unfortunately may conclude a patient's pain is not real, or they may tell the patient there is little they can do.

A doctor familiar with fibromyalgia, however, can make a diagnosis based on two criteria established by the ACR: a history of widespread pain lasting more than 3 months and the presence of tender points. Pain is considered to be widespread when it affects all four quadrants of the body; that is, you must have pain in both your right and left sides as well as above and below the waist to be diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The ACR also has designated 18 sites on the body as possible tender points. For a fibromyalgia diagnosis, a person must have 11 or more tender points. One of these predesignated sites is considered a true tender point only if the person feels pain upon the application of 4 kilograms of pressure to the site. People who have fibromyalgia certainly may feel pain at other sites, too, but those 18 standard possible sites on the body are the criteria used for classification.

Ive been Diagnoised since 96 and it has been a deffinete struggle. A strong support system means everything along with the proper doctor! If you know anyone with this please try to be encouraging and if I can be of help with my experiences or knowledge please put us in touch!

~THINGS IVE LEARNED!

This is not going to be what you thought. You know growing up whether friends, family or even a stranger there is that one thing they said that just sticks with you !

So, every Wednesday I will post ~THINGS IVE LEARNED~. Can be funny, informative, serious etc. Here are the few thing that popped in my mind today.

1) My friend and fellow Blogger Angie taught me to - Flush a public toilet with my foot/shoe! Sounds strange, but it never occurred to me that I didn't have to touch that nasty thing! I'm sure the people in the stall next to me wonder why I'm on 1 foot for a few seconds, but I think that was worthy of ~THINGS IVE LEARNED!~

2) My childhood friend and I have know each other since we were 12 and lets just say that's been a few years lol She gave me a ''plex'' in my teens because she ALWAYS told me as we got older to ,''not forget my neck when putting on facial products''! In retrospect I should have listened, Now I'm ''alittle'' older and my neck would look like a baby's butt (in my mind) had I only listened to my friends advise on applying the creams! So, now I slab it on about an inch thick hoping it will make up for the years of thinking I didn't need to!

That's all I have for tonight if I come up with anymore Ill save for next week. So, has anyone ever told you that one thing that was awsum or stupid that you've never forgotten? Well share with us and lets get a gasp or laugh together!

Happy Hump Day(-;

Not that I have anything earth shattering to say, but its nice to see familiar faces start to come back. Ive already met some on here that I seem to have so much in common with.

Its turned into alot of fun and sharing! Thank you for joining my Community, Blog or both. I look forward to joining and reading yours too <3

Bday Bliss

June is a busy month for us. We have my sons bday, my bday an our anniversary (all in 7days). If I were a nice wife I would let him use that as an excuse for the story below, but why do that when I can use it as leverage for years to come lol

When my boys were little my husband took them to the store ''The day of'' to buy me a BIRTHDAY card! As I take it out of the pretty purple envelope there was one of those dreary kinda flowers on it and it read ''My deepest Sympathy''! I open it up and it proceeds in the same theme, '' Our hearts and prayers are with you in your time of loss""! WTH?!

I thanked the boys and told them how pretty it was and they went along their merry way. THEN, I asked my hubbie if he'd seen the card. He replies ''YES - WHY?''. Now dont get me wrong I was lmao ''inside'', but the look on my husbands face was ''priceless'' when I handed him the card! He didnt know whether to run, apologize or admit defeat.

I have that card in an album and I laugh everytime I read it. He still has no idea I found it as funny as I did. He always acted like he put sooo much time and energy into the card picking process and helping the boys..... can you say ''BUSTED''! As I said if I were a ''nice'' wife I would have let it go, but that one was too good to let slide. Its been over 15yrs and I get the sweetest cards now....Things that make you go hummmm!

DAY FROM H=E=L=L

I'm in our local convenient store a few days back and purchased a lottery ticket. This ticket is called Texas Two Step. I've never bought it before, but I had a ''feeling''! I purchased $4 worth.

A few days later I'm in the store and decide to check it. Low and behold the music plays and she said you won something. I said cool, because I figured it was $5 or something. The girl behind the counter checks it and says ''S**t gurl you done won somethan!'' (her language lol) Then the man from the back come out an says ''no s**t you did''....I said ''seriously'' they harmonize ''NO S**T''!

Now this is starting to sound like alot of money, so I'm beginning to jump up and down with glee....seriously! The jack pot was 1.1 million!!! Yea, that WOULDA been nice. Long story short I won $1,100.00! Ill take it!! Hell of a return on $4.oo!

So, my husband and I set off for our 120ish mile round trip journey. He asks me several times, you got this - you got that (after 32yrs that's annoying!) OF COURSE I DO I reply! We drove by our house and our son needed the ruck so we changed vehicles and headed on our Merry way. Are you seeing where this is going yet?!

We get there in plenty of time to spare. I walk in with a hop in my step, hand him my ticket, Drivers license and SS card. He looks over everything and says,'Did you sign the back?'' I say ''no sir'' and he hands me a pen! I fill it out hand it back and .....wait for it...wait for it.....he says ''I'm sorry Miss we have to have a CURRENT D.L""!! !!x##!!***##@@@***xxx!!! WHAT?!!!

So, I turn to my husband and say, ''you do it''. The man looks at me and states ''I'M SORRY MISS HE CANT BECAUSE YOU JUST FILLED OUT THE BACK''!!! > WHAT!!!! You just looked at my stuff and TOLD me too!! I ask him what can I do? Miss Big Hair from the back states, ''you can mail it?'' XXX???!!!!!!######???!!!! WHAT!!!???

My patience at this point are hanging on by a thread! What happened you ask, I had my S.S card and a D.L. but the D.L. was not the CURRENT one....the current one was with my son in the truck!!! Now my question is , why does it matter? There is a picture and its ME on my DLs?!

I asked them so what would happen if I go to the DPS office and get a NEW one! He proceeds to tell me I couldn't just go do that. I proceeded to tell him for $11 bucks I most certainly could lol SO I DID!!!

Sounds like that was the solution right....NO!! After sitting and waiting for 2hrs,making small talk to a very nice lady who worked there I was thru with 1hr to spare! Yea baby money here I come!! Ill show them....

Well, no I didn't. We leave, there is silence as we pull out of the parking lot because I believe my husbands head will explode at any moment! I'm trying to be cool, but I can feel it coming and it did. We didn't make it a few miles when the traffic jam from hell was in front of us. A Tanker Truck has rolled over and it was a mess ! The loop that leads to EVERYWHERE was closed off and traffic was at a Stand still....no one is moving....NO ONE!!

I look at my husband and boom he said, '' I asked you if you had everything and you said you did!'' He just couldn't stand it! I...still trying to stay calm said ''' its all good we have plenty of time we can maneuver around this''! After seeing the news crews everywhere and traffic not moving I pretty much knew this was a wasted trip! I STILL try to be positive by stating ''at least I got my license renewed'' if looks could have killed my body would be up for viewing tomorrow.

By the time we got lost, called a friend for a short cut etc we FINALLY reach the Lotto Head quarters at 5:05, I kid you not 5:05....they were closed!! I believe they turned out the lights, locked the door and were on the floor peaking at me and laughing their butts off when we drove up on 2wheels and my hubbie is yelling ''RUN RUN!'' They were closed and locked up like Fort Knox!!!

Sooooo, we met up with the friends we called for directions, had a meal and I had a very large Margarita and we drove home mostly in silence. OMG it was KILLING him that I did that.... he was grinding his teeth the whole way home. I was trying hard not to laugh, but the closer we got home I just had to! It was pretty damn funny! I tell him '' you know its funny'' he glares....again I say ''you KNOW its funny''. This is the kicker I figured out a way to turn it around on him....I STATE ''Well you know me and you know I always do something like that so why didn't YOU make sure I had what I needed (-: ''

No he didn't kill me, he was so flustered he apologized to me! Now I know your thinking, ''that's bad''...........well he shouldn't have gave me 60ish miles in silence to decide it WAS HIS fault after all LOL! Men, they'll never understand women. So Im going alone Monday to try this ALL again! Wish me luck!

THE FINAL THREE

For all of us American Idol fanatics tonight is the ''final three''! I had my doubts this year about the talent , but I do like the final 3 and also Big Mike! Casey,Crystal and Lee all are so different vocally, but also talented instrumentally... I'm impressed!

My final 2 would be Crystal and Lee. I think Crystal is the true artist and actually should win. With that said I think Lee is awsum, he just needs to build up his self confidence and learn to be comfortable on stage. As far as Casey goes I believe he will do good even after the show. I should post a picture of my brother when he was in his twenties....he looks just like Casey! Wow as I'm watching this I didn't realize he is from Richardson, Tx....just a stone throw away.Big Mike will have a R&B contract if he doesn't already, he seemed like a really nice, down to earth guy and I wish him much success.

I wonder what next year will bring with Simon gone? Ellen has brought some humor to the show, but I still enjoyed Paula,Randy is Randy ''my Dog'' and Kara just haven't warmed up to her yet. Just when I think I may could like her she does or says something stupid lol

I like the entertainment, but again ''my opinion'' is if they would not dance as much they would sound better! I was mortified at Lady Gaga's performance a few weeks back and as my sons 18yr old girl friend watched with baited-breath I wondered what the hell are these ''role models'' doing?! Now I was raised with Madonna and even Cher was considered Risky, but this woman makes no sense to me. What do I know right.....maybe I'm showing my age haha. For instance Justin Beiber, cute kid, decent voice for his age, but I don't see the talent like our boy bands etc in my day...Michael Jackson and even The Osmond's...OMG did I just say The Osmond's? That's funny to see in print, I most definitely aged myself about 40yrs lmao

I wish it could be a tie between Lee and Crystal..........................they both seem to have a kind spirit and I wish them much success. Cant wait for the Finale!

''THE CAMP''

For my sons College Graduation we had party #2 at ''The Camp'' Saturday. Now we are from E. Tx and we refer to alot of places like that. We have Moon Lake, Half Moon, The Cannons, Black Cypress, Ltl Cypress, Big Cypress and so on. The Camp is family land wayyyyy out in the woods that runs along the River leading to the well known Caddo Lake. If you've ever seen the movie Deliverence, thats kind of the setting without the banjos.

We held the first party at a nice restraunt, you know the kind with the cloth napkins lol This one was on the river with a Skeet shoot, washers (throwing metal washers in certain holes lol) horse shoes, a keg (their mid 20's and noone was leaving for night)!

Right by the cabin is a place called Half Moon (I know). Half Moon is the home of several Alligators one at the moment is around 12ft! Now as I said we are in ''The woods!'' which means there are alllll kind of reptiles and varmints! Everyone is having a good time the men are having a skeet tournie when all of a sudden I hear ''SNAKE!!!''

Well let me tell you I couldnt run fast enough! I was mid air careful that the feet didnt touch the ground(just in case) I jump in the back of a truck and as I look up I see my friend running out of our cabin. The men are still shooting and are not aware of her screaming or me running on air!

Now I start yelling ''SNAKE SNAKE SNAKE''...all these men take off running toward the cabin like 'The snake whisperers' and or ''The snake hunters''! Im still in the truck as these men race past me and toward the cabin guns loaded. They get inside ready to shoot the cabin up and it was a ....harmless garden snake. Im STILL in the truck!!

My friend was standing in front of the cabin staring at me, I started laughing and told her ''I love you , but Im NOT geting out of this truck''! As the hostess I felt my job was to alert the Men! I thought I did this very well and at a pitch I didnt know my voice could reach! Im still in the truck! There are ten men loaded with everything from a 22 to a AR 15 and guess what ''no snake'' it got away! SEEMS LIKE I HAD THE RIGHT IDEA TO JUMP IN THE TRUCK LMAO. Im sure ''my friend'' the snake is laughing at me and bonding with ''my other friend'' the alligator!

No one said anything ,”to my face anyway” lol 1yr later the exercise pole is STILL in a box waiting for the appropriate place to display it! As you may can tell its a''stripper pole”……..the boys will not let that slide 1 inch!

My oldest an I got into the discussion of what the pole ”technically” was I insisted ''an exercise pole'', so what was his reply………”Ok so since its an exercise pole do you mind if I go to the EXERCISE Club and watch them ”EXERCISE”!! Real cute I say!!!

Thats my story and maybe one day when they are gone if Im not too old or broke down my ”exercise pole” will find its place in my home!

GRADUATION

Wow, at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning my oldest son will graduate from College. He will earn his Bachelor In Science In Industrial Technology/Mapping and Surveying. This is such an accomplishment and we so very proud of him! We have had alot of tragedies during his last four years of college,2 weeks ago his role-model and gran-pa passed away, his Uncle passed 1yr ago, we lost our home and all contents 2yrs ago, hes had 2 surgeries one which included having his jaws wired for 6wks and he also had his wisdom teeth (all 4) removed ....oh and Swine Flu!!

During all the above and due to the loss of our home we have moved 5times in 2yrs! During all of this my son was taking 21-22 and 24hrs! Which if you know anything about college we had to get anything over 19hrs approved by the Dean. Now, dont think for one minute that hes someone who ''likes'' school....total opposite! This is what makes tomorrow even more special! He actually hated school lol......he loved Sports, he loved socializing,he loved hunting.....school not so much haha

So, as I sit here tonight beaming with pride its bitter sweet! My babies grown.......he will ALWAYS be my baby! Now hes my baby with a degree! God has blessed us with him and his brother and I know they will succeed at anything that they set their minds to! Please say a prayer that I survive tomorrow with out making a fool of me or my son! The tears have flowed off and on all day to day....they are Happy Tears, but they are Mothers tears of Joy,Pride and most of all Love......those for me are sometimes hard to control.

He will be wearing his Poppas class ring tomorrow that we had cleaned and added his initials inside. I hope this is of some comfort to him.........his Poppa was as proud of him as we are! What a special relationship they had. Im sure he will be standing on that stage with him tomorrow and I pray my son can feel his presence!

You never break a habit, you replace one behavior or set of behaviors with a new set of behaviors. You have to replace bad behavior with positive and good behavior. You CAN end the cycle, you have the power to change your destiny and that of your children! Dont give up....... be proud of yourself for each change you make!

What Does Your Closet Say About You?

A confined space that holds alot of information about you, your closet is like a window to your personality. Whether its organized or a clutter nitch , ''it says alot about how you think and ultimately how you approach life!''. Your closet is to your home what your subconscious is to your mind-full of tantalizing secrets.

The experts say if...... your closet is pretty and practical then your a Nurtuer! The fact that you put so much attention to something that would rarely be seen by others means you are sensitive and nurtuer. (not me)

If you store alot of sentimental items in your closet you are a Harmonizer. In your mind you hold on to these items and believe it is important or tied to an event in your life. You will probably have photo albums to soft ball gear. This type of person generally makes good friends and love to make memories.(kinda)

Then there is the Prioritizer, the CEO of the closet world you... are the closet leader! You tend to have everything in order of size, color or season! You are a big thinker. This is something I wish I could do, but I guess Im just not that disiplined. ( Deff. not me!)

NOW THERE IS ME.....................

I am Closet Clutter Central! I and usually only I know where everything is. I just cant get my brain to concentrate long enough to be that disiplined. I worry too much about practical concerns and places in my house that ''can'' be seen. Now, hats off to all the above. I have tried to be an organizer and envy the ones who are. Espically if they can keep it that way! For me a chaotic closet keeps me on my toes and on the plus side..... Im always comming up with a new treasure or combination of clothes (-;

So in short, your closet is to your home what your subconscious is to your mind-a trove of tantilizing secrets!

~POPPA~

Our Poppa passed awasy a few weeks ago! Pops is my husbands dad and my 2 boys role model, friend and Granpa. You know that kind of man that EVERYONE loved. I have never heard a bad word spoken of him! His dad was the town Sherrif, Jugde and had the same character, personality and ''smiley eyes''. What are ''smiley eyes?'', they always have a twinkle and are always kind! My husband has that same charming character and is what attracted me to him 32yrs ago. Our 2boys appear to have inherited those traits and ''eyes'' too!

We decided to move here even tho it was inconvienent for us, so our boys would know their gran parents! Because the boys were so devastated at his passing I found myself questioning that decision (only briefly). I decided we did a good thing. The fact that they were able grow up,live by and really know their Pops is an opportunity most never have. For them to be fortunate enough to spend their whole life around such a role model was a blessing. One you take for granite until faced with a life with out him.

He was a true Gran Paw! (my dad passed when they were little) We will all miss him so much, but are so grateful for the memories and life lessons he taught us and passed down. Over 300 came to his viewing....what a testiment to a life well lived!

God Bless and R.I.P Poppa, thank you for all you taught us and our children, you were truly one of a kind!
