ME, MY BOYS AND HUMOR

I am not one of those parents with a million rules, but there is one thing I insisted on: The first thing my kids should see when they wake up is a smile. For good measure after naps, I usually jump up and down when I walked into their room to show how excited I am to see them; this is clearly one of those things you can do in the privacy of your own home and those little eyes looking at you will think your awsum and not crazy! “Wakey Wakey hands off Snakey!!” — like a victory dance in an undeclared war against sleep.

Early on in this rollercoaster ride of raising kids,(mine are 20 and 23) it struck me that among the many, many, responsibilities of being a parent — turns out there’s more to it than napping — was my need to make sure that my children learned what’s funny! Even if it turns out that they just have to be a doctor or must be a lawyer, I want them to be the funniest ones they can be. Seriously: learning what’s funny — not just how to make people laugh, but how to view oneself with humor — I felt would help them grow into the wonderfully engaged human beings we hope they’ll become. Also, appreciating comedy seemed like a tangible skill I could teach them myself, between the lessons about not eating rocks or sticking things in electrical outlets.

I started thinking more seriously about the funny. How could I assemble the “rules” of comedy for them?? Early on I knew both my boys had a keen sense of humor along with timing........timing is key to being funny!

I started simply, with laughing lessons. Boy did they have laughs`! Every week my oldest had a different laugh. from Pee Wee Herman to Bart Simpson to Movie Stars and eventually family members and neighbors which had to be an inside joke as not to hurt peoples feelings!!

“Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha…

Hee, hee, hee, hee, hee…

Hi, hi, hi, hi, hi…

Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho…

Huuu, huuu, huuu, huuu, huuu.”

Now combine all those together some how and that was their specialty laugh!
I have no scientific facts to back this up, but I firmly believe my boys discovered laughing earlier than most because of their enviroment Or, maybe it’s because we were often  in my jammies just being us. And I cant leave the hubbie doing their crazy stuff.they grabbed oh his his legs as he rushed in the door to be attatcked by 2ltl ones wanting hugs and a ride on the back or walk on the shoes etcccc

Then we moved on to facial comedy. The bug-eyes. The cross-eyes.The double-take. Even a little spit-take just to show them that grown-ups do it too, and with the right comic timing, it isn’t just disgusting. After every bit, I’d laugh, to show them you can laugh at all ages and at most things.

I admit that I like looking silly and stupid in front of my kids (and in front of your kids too, if they’re around). I only hope that by doing this, and by assuming the heavy responsibility of being their comedy mentor, I’ve started Morrris Boys on the road to a more joyful life. I’m trying to cover all the bases. Shortly after they were born, I made faces and strange noises to get their attention and response!:

“I am thankful for laughter except when milk comes out of my nose.”

- Woody Allen

“I’ll teach you to laugh at what’s funny!”

- Homer Simpson

The key is being open to improvisation. It’s not a full-time funfest at our house, but I try to focus on the laughter rather than the tears, complaints or howls.

What comes next, I’m not sure, but I feel confident that at least my children will know that the proper response to “I don’t know” is “Third base.”

Now that that are grown, the first thing everyone says is how ~funny~ my boys are....the only down-fall is its hard to tell when the oldest is serious! I will tell you this their teachers will never forget them and their wise answers or speeches! The coaches had a hard time with their humor, because theyd always put a positive spin on a bad game and they HATED that lol They wanted everyone to be pissed when they were pissed haha it didnt work with mine and in the end I actually believe they softened some of those old goats up lol

..................TO BE CONTINUED!

At this point it has been several more weeks since my last post! Not really sure where to start or what I'm ready to share yet, but I hate to keep you hanging!

My husband had brain surgery to remove a tumor 2 weeks ago today. As I said this was all a shock to us....we had no idea he was sick other than kidney stones. In spite of the fact that Good Shepard Medical Center almost killed him...I'M SERIOUS!, I finally ~forced~ them to transfer him to UT S Western Zale Lipshy, in Dallas where they brought him back to life and performed the brain surgery flawlessly!

We are now in the process of being set up for treatment at UT S. Western Zale for his radiation/chemo. They are said to be as good as M D Anderson and he feels comfortable there sooo.............I pray they are! He has the ~C~ word. At this point I'm not ready to go into detail until he and I know exactly what we are dealing with! I  may start a separate blog just on this ,his recovery and the road we will be traveling in the process!

We have 2 sons, been together 32 of my 47yrs on this earth and he is my rock...our rock! We are devastated and hopeful at the same time! If any of you out here have experienced this kind of tumor glioblastoma  or know someone who  has please put them in contact with me! His is a rare form so it cant be treated like a reg grade3-4....its all a guessing game and Im actually ok with that! Why?? Because a grade 4 is not a good out come and with his it has alittle of all, so its not fast growing and thats awsum!!! My head is full and swimming of what to do...the best thing for us to do???!!!!

Thank you for your support and I appreciate all who will share this journey with us and give me advice, support or a sounding board! God Bless Roxs

~MY LIFE AS WESLEYS WIFE~

Its been a few weeks , more like a month since my last post! My life has been in such turmoil and will only give a short story, as I'm too tired to wrap my brain around it!

Several weeks ago my husband doubled over with kidney stones, This was our 1st ambulance run! We arrived at a local hospital and all in all the experience what a decent E.R. visit! He left still with stones "intact", but not any worse than when he went in!

Three days later my husband was at his parents , had a seizure (1st and last) and was rushed to another hospital.(my oldest got to witness this!). This is where the ~saga~ begins.............................Give me a few days and Ill complete this when Im sure of the out come this weekend! Please keep our family in your prayers!

FUNNY PIC AND NEWS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now those signs are both funny AND disturbing lol!  Its funny at times how we have to spell out even the *basic* things for some to understand! Its also funny that someone had a good enough day to tell everyone else they would not!! I probably would have laughed at it (=

Man Sues Coffee Shop for Ice Mocha Mishap

August 26, 2002 - Michigan, USA

After spilling an iced coffee beverage onto his lap while driving from a local coffee shop drive-through a Michigan man is now suing the shop for $800,000 in damages and mental anguish. The man claimed it was a "traumatic experience" that has negatively altered his life in many ways. He claims that he was unaware of the frigid temperature of his Ice Mocha or he would have taken better precautions with handling the beverage. The coffee shop owner said during our interview, "Anyone who doesn't know the temperature of a drink that has the word 'ice' in its name has much more important things to worry about than a moment of discomfort due to his own negligence. He sustained no physical harm, there were no damages to his vehicle or possessions except a brown stain on his pants, which I am sure is something he is used to."

~Sizzling Sunday and Pending Monday~

THIS IS MY YOUNGEST AND HIS GIRLFRIEND

THEY LOVE TO TAKE PICS!

Which ones better? I vote for Sizzling Sunday, why you ask? Because I enjoy the family being home. I am glad my boys are off work and out of the heat except for the things they WANT to do! I enjoy listening to them laugh and their girl friends giggle, watch them pick at each other - fuss and make up! But most of all watching them grow.
I have came to realize if not for our misfortunes they may not still be living at home! Bitter sweet.........Im one of those moms that could have her children live by them ALWAYS! They wouldnt have to visit everyday it would just be nice to know their ok and at home at night safe and sound!
So before some freak out on me-NO-I dont encourage it, but I would never discourage it either. We have a close family and we love their long time girlfriends. We all know each others limits so we try not to go too far!
As I said in my last post, this is a small house and we are forced to always be around each other if home! It gets difficult at times, but I wouldnt give it up for the world. I can go next door (our store room is bigger than our house and was an old church pews and all!) where I put the office, tanning bed etc and chill to get away from the ruckus lol They can go over there to get away from us also so it works!
I also realize with talks of engagements pending with both by the end of the year and Bridal magazines thrown around the house in every corner this scenero will be over soon enough. Maybe thats why I enjoy my weekends with my ~CREW~ as I call them! I am reluctlently letting go more and more everyday, although I tell them I have.......I havent!
I never realized just how much ~I~ needed them until they were all I had! I always prided myself on allowing them to grow, make their own mistakes and be their own person. Their Dad and I in the back ground if needed watching, waiting, congratulating, cheering on and consoling if need be!
This sizzling Sunday my oldest spent the weekend at his G.F.s families in another town. Its quiet when hes not here. God has blessed me with this time with him. He moved back home shortly after our house burnt and drove back and forth to College. Four days a week he drove a 120 miles round trip, he said he wanted to be back home around his family! The thought of us not being here really freaked him out! I laugh and say God brought him back home so Id get sick of another grown man (21-23) living at home and I could deal when they moved out for good! I REALLY do believe this!
My youngest and I did College stuff this weekend on the computer trying to get him registered etc His laugh is so intoxicating I love to hear it! It makes a bad day seem not so bad! Its makes a good day GREAT! His G.F. would marry tomorrow, so I have spent alot of time explaining the importance of school and being prepared! Who knows if it sunk in, but at least this small house presents the ability to hear and see more so I can help or at least put my 10cents in!
Sizzling Sundays are the day that slows the weekend down, brings us all together to prepeare for the week to come and always open the door for discusssion of ~something~. Its family meal day, the day everyone slows down long enough to stick around and watch a movie together, grill,do some house/yard work and just have a visit! I love it and I hope when they are married going thru the hussle and bussel of life they look back and remember this time together with a smile! I hope they take away from the experience that family is what counts and everthing else is secondary.
I can only say a prayer that they feel as Blessed as I do! Who knows what next weekend will bring, but I do know next Sunday will be a family day full of stories, laughter, arguing(they are boys),schedules for the pending week, but most of all unity........~ A Family That Prays And Plays Together Stays Together~
THIS IS MY OLDEST AND HIS GIRLFRIEND!
THIS IS OUR HOUSE DURING ~FIGHT NITE SATURAY! WE RENT PAY PER VIEW (UFC FIGHTS?)AND EVERYONE FINDS A SEAT(FRIENDS AND FAMILY),EATS A GOOD MEAL AND JUST ENJOYS THE COMPANY...TOLD YOU IT WAS TIGHT LOL

Simple Saturday

~PICTURES FROM OUR HOUSE THAT BURNT~

That's what today has been and I love it! Simple in the clothes I put on, the calls I've made, the plans for tonight and it seems to be showing in my new pattern of life! I believe I may be seeing alot more simple days and relationships......because they are just that ~SIMPLE~!

You see so many things have lead up to this decision and I will share a few with you! Now before I begin do not Pity me for what I share because I have learned and grew from all my life experiences.

Two yrs ago at about 3am we were awoke by our house full of smoke. We had restored this home 4yrs prior and was one of the oldest in our Historical town and I might add also one of the prettiest. It was a beautiful house with 14-16ft ceilings, original hardwood floors, grand entrance,3 baths...just everything you could want in that type of home! My oldest son was away at college and our youngest up front asleep awaiting his bday in 2days!

When my husband woke me and opened our bedroom door black smoke barrelled in.....it was the most frightening thing I have ever experienced. This was a large house so to get from our room up and around to our sons room in a dark smoked filled house was a chore! I jumped up and ran/crawled to his room and woke him, turned around and headed to the front door and he was gone! I ran back to his room and he was asleep again (apparently he had already started to breath in smoke!) so I jerked him up in his boxers and we ran! My husband went out the back grabbing the dog and what few items he could as I tried too, but there was only so much we could get!

In all the ruckus we had called 911 and the emergency crews were there by the time we got outside! We stood that night and watched everything we owned and all our memories go up in smoke and there wasn't a thing we could do! At the time and months to follow were the hardest of my life. My brother passed of a rare and sudden illness 6mths later, my husbands dad passed 1yr 1/2 later and his mom was diagnosed with cancer just 2mths after his death!

There were alot of little things that were in between, but also came the reevaluating my life and its purpose. What should I do from here was always a thought! I realized VERY quickly that night as I watched the flames that my family was safe! My animals were safe! All I THOUGHT was important or status quo meant nothing with out the life that was breathing around me!!

We went from 3600 sq ft to 850 sq ft! Its a small family property given to my husband when his dad passed. I have moaned and groaned at the size etc, because it has been a major shell shock! BUT I have learned that this `SMALL` house has helped to heal our family and bring us even closer! We have no choice but to be around each other, watch T.V. together, eat together and wait for an available bath room yes...together lol Due to all the circumstances money has been tight so we have also learned to entertain each other!

I never thought my life would be where it is now and some tragic things have happened , but it has taught us all how important the ~~simple~ things in life REALLY are! Friends, family and the smaller things that cant be bought are whats important. I cherish every moment I have with the ones I love and realize in many ways how they can go in a blink of an eye.

We will re-coupe our life one day, but we could never replace each other! So live, love, laugh and be grateful for what you have RIGHT NOW at this moment and time!! You never know when your life may change and with out that love and support from each other the journey will be alot harder manage!
